Hi! I’m Jessie Shiels, and I am the Business Development Manager at Emerge Marketing. I joined Emerge in June 2024 after working in advertising, in-house corporate marketing, and small business marketing. I love working with the Emerge team to help other small businesses, organizations, and communities reach their full potential. Below is how I’m infusing our 2025 word of the year, nourish, into every part of my life.
What does nourish mean to you? How do you interpret it?
To me, nourish means to care for something in a way that helps it grow, thrive, and feel full, whether that’s your body, your mind, your relationships, your spirit, or any other aspect of your life. It’s about being intentional and present, and giving time, energy, and love to the things that matter most and keep you grounded and feeling foundationally sound.
Do you have any goals related to nourishment for the year?
One of my big goals this year is to focus more on my physical health: spending more time outside, working out, going for walks, and playing sports with my kids. I’m also trying to be more mindful about doing at least one thing each day that fills my cup, so I’m not running on empty. I’ve realized it’s totally okay to take a little time for myself, and it actually helps me show up as a better version of myself for my family.

What’s a rhythm or routine in your day-to-day that is nourishing for you?
Waking up before my family and having that quiet time to myself, whether it’s going for a walk or getting in a quick workout, has been incredibly nourishing. It’s my way of easing into the day, clearing my head, and setting the tone before everything gets busy. That simple space to move and reset makes a big difference for me.
How are you nourishing a specific area of your life?
Nourishing my soul through my environment.
This year, I’m focusing on making my environment support my well-being. That means being mindful of the energy in our home, choosing to spend time with people who uplift me, and engaging in activities that bring joy and peace. I want our home to feel like a calm, joy-filled, and grounding place for my family. Whether it’s meaningful conversations with my kids, slow family dinners, or quiet evenings, I’m striving to create a space that helps our souls feel rested and loved.
A Nourishing Recipe I Love
I’ve been loving this Green Goddess Dressing lately. It’s simple, fresh, and nourishing. I love using it as a dip or on top of a big salad.
Green Goddess Dressing Recipe:
- 1 cup whole milk Greek yogurt
- 1 cup fresh parsley
- 1 cup mixed soft leafy herbs (dill, mint, tarragon and/or cilantro)
- 2 tablespoons chopped chives
- 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
- ½ teaspoon zest
- 1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
- 1 garlic clove
- ¼ teaspoon sea salt
- Freshly ground black pepper
Combine everything in a food processor and pulse until smooth. Store in the fridge for up to 5 days. Makes just over 1 cup.
It’s so versatile and adds a flavorful, nourishing touch to any meal.

Final Thoughts on the Word Nourish
Nourishment is something I’m learning to prioritize in every area of my life from myself, to my marriage, to my friendships, to parenting, and even in how I approach rest and creativity. It’s about being present, making space for what matters, and offering consistent care and love to the things and people that fill me up. I’m not chasing perfect balance, but I am committed to checking in regularly and making small, meaningful shifts as I grow.

Whether you’re nourishing your body, your spirit, or your relationships, I hope this year offers you the space to grow, thrive, and feel deeply rooted in the things that matter most.
